Brief Introduction
SinoSi's Guar Gum is a kind of natural gum manufactured from endosperm of guar bean plant. It consists of C, H, N, Na, Ca, Mg. components. Chromatography tests show that galactose and mannose are the main components of the guar gum. The ratio of galactose and mannose of guar gum is 1:2.
Incomplete hydrationof guar gum at ambient temperature, poor solubility and the desire for products with modified or special properties lead to the development of commercial derivatives. Hydroxypropyl guar gum is preferred since it hydrates faster, contains less insoluble material, and has improved temperature stability.
Main Properties
The guar gum has the follow main properties:
Water Solubility
Guar Gum is insoluble in any organic solvent. Water is the only solvent for guar gum.
Viscosity
In the presence of water, guar gum undergoes swelling and hydration, forming a highly viscous hydrosol. The viscosity increases significantly with the increase of the powder concentration in the solution. Guar Gum solution is a non-newtonian fluid. Its viscosity decreases with the increase of the shear velocity.
Resistance to Salts
Because of its nonionic nature, guar gum is generally unaffected by anion or cation and does not undergo salting out.
Gelation
When hydrated guar gum can be crosslinked by borax, dichromates and other various reagents, forming a non-newtonian viscoelastic water-based gel. The viscosity of this gel is hundreds of times higher than that of the hydrosol.
Use in the Petroleum Industry
In the petroleum industry, the oil reservoir pressure decreases after recovering petroleum for a long time. The guar gum is used in the petroleum industry as thickener for water-based fracturing fluids. In hydraulic fracturing, a water-based fracturing fluid is injected under high pressure into an oil-bearing rock formation to create fractures. Extending away from the well bore, the resulting narrow fractures increase the production rate of oil wells.
At home and abroad in the petroleum industry, the hydraulic fracturing system is dominant of all the fracturing systems.
Hydroxypropyl guar gum has the excellent performance such as the quick scattering in the water, bearing the heat and the shearing, the low insoluble content and residue, which is very suitable for the deep, high temperature and special wells.
